The Story

The Spanish Steps are a monumental stairway of 135 steps, built between 1723-1725, connecting the Piazza di Spagna with the French church of Trinita dei Monti. The steps were designed by architects Francesco de Sanctis and Alessandro Specchi, funded by French diplomat Etienne Gouge to honor the Bourbon monarchy of France.
